Time for another round of Random Monday (which usually means that I had a busy weekend and I’m putting this post together at 6:00 on Sunday evening (which I am))! Today I have a few of my favorite things, news about my cross country team, and the winner of the LÄRABAR giveaway.
Let’s start off with the winner, shall we? Congratulations to Gigi from Gigi Eats Celebrities! She will be receiving a gift pack of 16 LÄRABARs and RENOLA! The winner was selected using Random.org. Don’t worry, though. If you didn’t win you can still save. Click here for a coupon to save on either LÄRABAR or RENOLA!
Cross Country News
I’m excited to announce that my girls cross country team will be going to the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) playoffs! We did this in spite of losing one of our top runners to injury and dealing with other issues like colds and illnesses that come up during the season. We finished fourth in our league. We had the capability I believe, to finish third in the final meet, but losing the aforementioned injured athlete put an end to that hope. It doesn’t matter though! We’re going! On Saturday, November 15 the CIF Southern Section semi-finals will be held at Mt. San Antonio College, one of the most challenging yet most beloved cross country courses in the country. It is also the site of the largest cross country meet in the world (we were there a few weeks ago). So next Saturday spare a thought for my girls toughing it out in what will probably be our last meet of the season.
Balance Bare Bars
I was recently sent a package of Balance Bare Bars to try out. This is a new line for Balance Bar. All the bars are Non-GMO, gluten and soy free, and two of them, Sweet & Spicy Nut, and Mixed Berry Nut are also vegan. I loved both of them, especially the Sweet and Spicy Nut. It is a combination of almonds and peanuts with a touch of ground chipotle chile to give it just a bit of a spicy bite. I thought that each bar had chocolate, but when I looked at the ingredients, neither did. I think that the chicory in each bar gave it a bit of chocolatey, coffee flavor.
I was also happy that each bar had just 160 calories. So many nutrition bars have over 200 calories. I like that the Balance Bare Bar had fewer calories, but still satisfied my hunger and tasted great. Each bar has four grams of protein, three grams of fiber, and they taste really, really good.
Earth Balance Mac & Cheese
Here is my confession: Since Whole Foods opened in September in Palm Desert and I finally found the Earth Balance Vegan Macaroni and Cheese, I have made it
four five times. Yes, I obviously like it. It is perfect for a quick and tasty dinner. I like to add some grilled vegan Field Roast Smoked Apple Sage sausage.
I won this Tribesports Performance Half Zip top in a giveaway from Pavement Runner and it is finally cool enough to wear it. I love everything about it. The fit is amazing..flattering and comfortable, the fabric has an Aegis antimicrobial treatment that keeps it smelling fresh, and it has a secret pocket, thumbholes, and pretty raglan sleeves. Plus it has reflective accents to keep you safe in low light.
As a proponant of healthy eating, maybe I shouldn’t tell you this, but the last two Saturdays in a row I stopped at Whole Foods and picked up a couple vegan doughnuts. I joked on Instagram (are you following me? Why not?) that I might just change my blog name to “runsforvegandoughnuts.com.” It’s available, I checked. By way of explanation, since I went vegan over four years ago, I don’t eat many sweets. It is too complicated, I don’t bake, etc. Until Whole Foods opened in September it had been years since I’d had a doughnut. I don’t even like them that much, but the idea that I could have a vegan doughnut lured me in.
Finally, in the good news department, the toe that I thought I might have broken after dropping my iPad on it seems to be fine. It was swollen and bruised, and hurt for a couple days, but now is pain free and back to normal. Hurray!
