Hurray! It’s Friday! We’ll probably be heading to Orange County to celebrate Father’s Day by watching our grandsons play in a tournament. I’m not even sure what sport, since they seem to play them all, but I know we’ll enjoy it.
I couldn’t settle down to write today, so I’m rambling a little on the Friday the 13th. Here are a few of the random things that have been on my mind.
Honesty. Is it always the best policy?
Here’s an easy one: Your spouse asks you, as you’re getting ready to go out for dinner, “does this dress (top/slacks/jacket, etc.) look good on me?
So, that we have the title question answered, let me move on to what I really wanted to talk about. Honesty on the internet. Specifically, on blogs. More specifically, on my blog.
Some bloggers lay everything out there for their readers to consume. Money problems, fights with spouses, job issues, nothing is held back or reserved.
Of course, some bloggers have been know to lose jobs, get divorces, and other “side effects” from letting the world know your secrets.
On the flip side, other bloggers present just the happy, glossy side of their life, with little introspection or personal revelation.
I, like probably the majority of bloggers, fall somewhere in the middle. We reveal quite a bit about our personal lives, but hold something back. We will talk about our emotions and feelings, but maybe not tell you our mortgage is overdue. Let you know our hopes for the future, but hold back that our job is on the line. Put a little more emphasis on the positive, and not delve too much into the negative. In my case I always respect the privacy of my husband and other family members. Not everyone wants their life written about on the internet.
Of course, it all can add up to interesting reading. It is an individual choice, how much to reveal, and as long as someone is aware of and can live with the consequences, they should be able to write what they want about their own lives.
High School Graduation
Alan and I went to the Palm Desert High School graduation on Thursday. We don’t always make it, but we have a lot of special seniors this year. Last year Alan actually worked the graduation, so he was right down on the field. That’s right, on the football field, which in the desert in June will be over 100 degrees, even at 7:00 when the ceremony starts. Not to mention having to sit in the bleacher seats. Ah, the sacrifices we make!
It’s been a long time since my sons and my niece graduated, which was probably the last time a graduation was even remotely interesting. But the kids appreciate the fact that we are there, and it is fun to see the graduates celebrate. There was a post-ceremony party, but it started way too late for a work night (when work is 5:30 in the morning), so we didn’t stay long. Our friend Liz made an amazing vegan lasagna made it worth staying up late though.
When the sun finally set it revealed a beautiful full moon rising over the ceremony. And take note of the picture below. Not just graduating twins Nick and Nicole and their happy mom, but at the clock. That’s 9:55 pm people! We were partying!
Now that my marathon is out of the way, I intend to get back on my mat (yes, I know you’ve heard all that before). I’m not even going to talk about that here. Instead, I want to share some affiliate love that will help me practice yoga and look good while I’m doing it.
(Side note: I saw my friend April, who owns Yoga Central, at the graduation party last night. I did the whole, “I plan to be back in the studio soon,” line, and she was very kind and said something like, “we’re waiting for you.” I realized afterward that I sounded like all the runners and exercisers over the years, who have fallen off the fitness wagon, and when they see me they immediately feel guilty and say something similar to what I said to April.)
YogaDownload.com, is probably my favorite way to take a yoga class when I can’t make it to the studio. I became an affiliate because I was already a member and I loved it so much. They have both video and audio downloads available, but the audios are truly my favorite. I download them to my phone, and I truly can, just like their tagline says, “take yoga anywhere.” Here are a couple deals:
Back in March, I was contacted by a rep from Yoga Outlet and given a chance to order an item of my choice. It gave me an opportunity to experience the great variety of options, excellent customer service, and ease of ordering available through Yoga Outlet. I was so impressed (and I loved my Lucy Heart Center top so much), that I became an affiliate. Now I even have a store available, powered by Yoga Outlet, that offers all the great service, prices and a wide variety of brands and items from which to choose.
YogaDirect.com has a huge variety of yoga mats, props, and accessories, all at great prices. From Eco Friendly Yoga Supplies to Yoga Jewelry and Gifts, Yoga Direct really has it all. Now you can save on specially selected items with this BOGO offer: Buy 1 Get 1 Free from YogaDirect.com.
I was recently given a six month membership to My Yoga Works and I think it is another great alternative for home practice. My Yoga Works has over 500 yoga class videos that can be streamed live to any device. There is something for everybody, from beginners to advanced, from short 10 minute meditations to 90 minute “yoga buffets.”
As I mentioned, I am an affiliate of these companies, so I stand to make a few dollars if you purchase through my links.
Have a wonderful weekend. I’m looking forward to the cooler weather in Huntington Beach this weekend. What are you up to?
What is your opinion about honesty in blogging? If you’re a blogger, do you tell all? As a reader, what do you prefer?
