Did You Say You Want to Try an Exercise Class? #IHRSA2014

As you read this, I should be on my way to the IHRSA Convention and Trade Show! Well, depending on the time of day, I may already be there because it’s only a two hour drive from La Quinta.

Anyway, as I wrote last week, I am heading to San Diego to attend the 33rd Annual International Health, Racquet, and Sportsclub Association’s International Convention and Trade Show (see why we just call it IHRSA?). It’s taking place Wednesday through Saturday at the San Diego Convention Center and I couldn’t be more excited to attend for what I think is my sixth or seventh time.

In my previous post I told you about the education sessions and inspiration speakers that are the backbone of the convention. They are the real reason that I try to go to IHRSA every year because I always bring home something that will make me better at my job, whether it is a great idea, a boost of motivation, or a new piece of fitness equipment that will soon be the next big thing.

But another part of IHRSA that I just touched on, is the amazing variety of exercise classes that are included and available for everyone attending. They are always new, fun, challenging, and HUGE! Everyone in attendance wants to try out the newest, most fun classes, right?

Here are a few of the classes that will be offered at IHRSA.  I hope to see you there!

Todd Durkin’s I.M.P.A.C.T. Workout Powered by Under Armour’s Armour 39 Performance Monitoring System

Okay, I’m going to miss this on Wednesday because it starts at 6:30 (remember that two hour drive I talked about?). But fortunately, it will also happen on Thursday and Friday too. Todd will wake up IHRSA with a motivating and energizing workout that utilizes Under Armour’s latest innovation, Armour 39. If you want to work hard, this is the workout for you.

Burn Lab

Xerciselab Did You Say You Want to Try an Exercise Class? #IHRSA2014

If you’re looking for High Intensity Interval Training, Burn Lab is for you. Instructors Breann Mitchell and Jenny Rowe will be leading this pre-choreographed program that fuses bootcamp-like drills, martial arts, and sports conditioning. Burn Lab will be repeated on Thursday and Friday. The class was created and is sponsored by Xercise Lab.

Build Lab

Also sponsored by Xercise Lab, this is a pre-choreographed, no weight adult workout. Using only your own body weight as resistance you will work every major muscle group in your body.

Les Mills Virtual Bodypump

Join Glen Ostergaard and the Les Mills team for a 30 minute Bodypump workout delivered on a big screen with pumping sound.

Piloxing

Viveca Johnson, who founded Piloxing will lead this workout which blends the best of Pilates, Boxing and Dance into a high energy interval workout.

Cardio Bootcamp

Fitness personality Jennifer Cohen will lead this workout which will utilize the Polar Cardio GX System. You’ll be able to see your real time heart rate and calories displayed on screen, which will help keep you in the zone.

Les Mills Virtual BodyCombat

BodyCombat is an empowering martial arts based cardio workout, led by instructors Dan Cohen and Rachel Newsham. This 55 minute workout will be delivered on a big screen with pumping music.

Halo Athletic Conditioning on the Halo Trainer

PJ O’Clair will lead this unique three dimensional workout teaching the core-integrated body weight training using the Halo Trainer.

MOTR: Balance, Core, Strength

Instructors Portia Page and Erika Quest will lead this class which combines the core principles of Pilates, the power of aerobic conditioning, and the balance and release exercises of a foam roller in this inspiring workout.

360 Circuit Breakers

Break out of old school circuit training and experience reactive countdown performance training, led by “Sgt. Ken,” Ken Weichert. Use the Spri Step 360 to initiate high performance challenges.

HIIT: The Circuit and Heat It Up!

This High Intensity Interval Training Workout will heat you up and leave you wanting more! Instructors Keli Roberts and Krista Popowych will use the JumpSport Fitness Trampoline and the Plyofit Fitness System, plus some other toys implements to give you the best of both worlds: High intensity conditioning with low impact training.

Les Mills Virtual BodyFlow

BodyFlow is the yoga, tai chi and Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength and leaves you feeling centered and calm. Jackie Mills will lead this workout delivered on the big screen with pumping sound.

H2O 60

Head to the pool for this challenging 60 minute workout that combines the best of Xercise Lab’s water programs. Take the Xtreme plunge!

BootyBarre

This energetic and fun workout fuses fitness techniques from dance, Pilates and yoga that will tone, define and chisel the whole body. Tracey Mallet teaches this 60 minute BootyBarre class that starts with a fusion warm up, then progresses to barre work and finishing with abs, back, and pure flexibility.

Ropes Gone Wild

Sgt. Ken is back to teach this high intensity, non-impact, full body workout that incorporates the Undulation Training System method. You will develop core stabilization, authentic strength, and metabolic endurance in this varied intensity rope conditioning class.

Total Barre Endurance Workout

“Raise the Barre” with this vigorous barre class driven by powerful music selections that challenges neuromuscular strength and coordination.

Corebar FIT

Corebar FIT (Funcional Integration Training)is an intermediate intensity Corebar class led by Lene Kristine Sjoflot, International Director of the Corebar Academy. It is a thorough, energetic and fun class, with small amounts of high impact movements such as jumping and running.

Whew! I’ve had a workout just writing about these amazing exercise classes. I think I missed a few too! All in all, you will find just about any type of class possible at IHRSA. In addition to all the planned classes above, many of the vendors at the trade show, including Zumba, TRX, Total Gym, Aerial Yoga, and others conduct multiple classes throughout the day.

    Wow! I am a die hard CrossFit girl, but I like to mix it up with classes at least once a week and I’ve been stuck in a spinning/BodyPump rut. Nothing wrong with either, but just reading these class ideas is making me think twice about checking out the other options at my gym. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your updates!
