Weekly Reader: Quick Wisdom from the Web

Have you ever read a great book, seen an inspiring movie, or heard a great joke, and thought, “I’ve got to share that!” Of course you have! Here are a few things from my Reader in the last week (or two) that inspired and motivated me, made me happy, sad, and angry, made my stomach growl, and made me laugh.

Weekly Reader

I love this picture of Samuel and his Uncle David (my youngest son).

I somehow thought that with cross country over, my weekends free, time would magically open up for me. Ha! The season is upon us in the desert, work in incredibly busy, and now Christmas is approaching quickly. For that reason, I present a slimmed down (and late) version of Weekly Reader. I hope you will make the time to read some of these great posts.

Vegan Inspiration

Fragrant Vanilla Cake, Pine Nut Chevre with Cranberry Pear Relish. Perfect for a vegan holiday appetizer, Amy’s Pine Nut Chevre sounds delicious (and easier than you’d think!).

Vegan American Princess, Beyonce and JayZ Mexican Breakfast Tofu Scramble. I don’t know what makes me happier. That Beyonce and JayZ are doing a vegan challenge or Ellen’s tofu scramble. Probably the latter.

Vegan Dad, Roasted Winter Veggies with Tofu with Orange Cranberry Sauce. I’m so happy that the Vegan Dad is posting again that I wanted to let everyone know by posting this recipe, which is perfect for the holidays.

Running & Fitness Inspiration

Miss Zippy, Five Ways to Improve Your Running This Off Season. While I’m certainly not in my off season now (the weather is finally close to perfect in the desert), this is great advice for those who live in colder climates.

Fun & Fit, Seven Tips to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain. Great tips from Alexandra and Kymberly to stay active and healthy during the holidays and avoid weight gain.

Best Body Fitness, Planning to Gain Weight this Season? Is that Okay? Another side of the coin, Tina asks whether we should expect, or even plan, to gain a few pounds over the holidays.

Blogging Inspiration

HubSpot, 100 Tips & Tricks Professional Bloggers Use to Make Their Job Easier. Great ideas for any blogger.

The Lean Green Bean, Bookmarked: Blogging Tips. This is an amazing resource from Lindsay. So many great blogging tools!

Blogelina, How to Be Making Money Blogging and Stay Ethical at the Same Time. A great resource and reminder for those of us who want to make an income from blogging (but don’t want to sell our soul to do so).

Food for Thought

The Great Fitness Experiment, The Problem with “Real Women Have Curves.”  An insightful post from Charlotte asking, “just what is a ‘real woman?'” Great conversation in the comments too.

Candy Fit, Hold Yourself Accountable. This is a great post for the holidays from Kierston, about taking responsibility for your health and fitness.

Fit and Feminist, Running in the Dark. I thought it was interesting that Caitlin’s post about her love of running in the dark came on the same day as my post about my fear of the same.

Now it’s your turn? Have you read (or written) something you’d like to share? Leave a link in the comments!

Hi Debbie….I just came across your blog when I saw the title! Imagine my surprise when I saw you blog AND live in La Quinta. So do I! I’ve been blogging about 6 years (doing my SMART Living blog for about 2 and a half, and have lived in La Quinta much of my life. Isn’t it the BEST place to be? Anyway, wanted to pop in her and say “Hi!” before I check out all your suggestions. We’ve probably passed each other in Old Town La Quinta several times without even knowing it. ~Kathy
