Between traveling to San Diego for a cross country meet, seeing my grandson (and his parents!), then being able to celebrate the first day of Fall with a great and COOL trail run with my favorite running partners, I’ve been too busy to write about all of it. So I’d like to share some of the highlights of the weekend in (mostly) pictures.
We were at the Mt. Carmel Invitational for our cross country meet. The team did well, and we certainly enjoyed the cooler weather. We ran alongside over 3,000 other high school athletes!
I was so excited that Nathan, Sarah, and Samuel made it out to the park! They actually live only a few miles away! I was able to spend about an hour playing with my grandson. He is getting so big! Almost 10 months old! Wow! That is a lot of exclamation points! Can you tell how excited I was to see my family?
After the meet, we headed to the beach, a tradition that we strive to uphold every year! We always go to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, where we know they have lifeguards, bathrooms and food. While the kids and a few parents enjoyed the beach, Alan and I hiked to the Lotus Cafe for lunch. As always, the Woody Festival was in progress, making finding a parking space for the bus a challenge. Even the bus driver had fun, meeting his son for lunch while we did our beach thing.
Sunday was the first day of Fall, and for a change the weather reflected that. It was cool, in the 70s, clear and beautiful. Because it was also a little windy, Alan chose to run with me instead of ride, so we headed into the trails with Penny and Buddy. We couldn’t neglect the rest of the pack, so after four miles, we returned home and I took the little girls for a mile while Alan took Sydney and Goldie for a walk.
We noticed quite a bit of terrain change due to the recent flooding. Some of the trails were washed away, others were difficult to negotiate.
So grateful for the cool weather. We have our first league meet today, and the forecast is for the low 90s, probably the coolest I can remember in all the time I’ve been coaching. I’m hoping that after a horrible summer, we may just be heading into a mild Autumn. Fingers crossed!
So, this wasn’t quite as wordless as I planned. I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! How did you spend your first day of Fall?
