I realized today that I have a growing list of “things” that I have been using and loving lately and that perhaps it was time to share them with you. Some of the items were sent to me for the purpose of review and I’ll be sure to let you know which items they are (though I try to be honest and give my true opinion no matter what).
I’m Loving…Kindrunner and Balega Hidden socks
As you know, I am an ambassador for Kindrunner, the online running store where it pays to be kind. Literally. You earn cash reward when you return your old shoes! More on that here. Well, I just received my Ambassador shirt the other day! It is a white tech shirt with the Kindrunner logo. It is really soft and comfortable, even running in the heat here (which still hasn’t let up!).
Along with the shirt I was sent a pair of Balega Hidden Comfort socks in bright pink. These socks are great. They have just enough cushioning to be comfortable without feeling too thick. The seamless toe is linked by hand to avoid friction, and the heel and toe are double reinforced to increase durability.
When I first put them on, they felt a little slippery inside my shoe, but as soon as I started running this feeling went away. In fact, I felt totally unaware that I was wearing socks, which is a great thing! My feet were kept cool because of the ventilation panels and the mesh construction. They are made with Balega’s Drynamix fiber, which uses a unique rapid moisture evaporation system, all of which means my feet stayed cool and dry throughout my run. Kindrunner has a variety of Balega socks available, including the Hidden Comfort. You can find them here. I highly recommend them.
I’m Loving…The Vitamin Shoppe
The Vitamin Shoppe just opened a store in La Quinta and I finally made it over there the other day. In addition to vitamins, they have a huge variety of supplements, herbs, and sports nutrition products. Alan has been shopping there for his Gu and Cytomax.
I wanted to pick up some Vitamin B12 (vital for vegans you know), and they had a great special..buy one of the Vitamin Shoppe brand products, receive the second for 50% off! Poor Alan had to wait while I decided what I wanted, mostly because there were so many choices. Vitamin Shoppe has a wide variety of vegan products, and best of all, their staff knows that it means. The young man working there was very helpful as I asked questions and he was able to point me in the right direction. I finally settle on Kelp, a great source of iodine, which is usually ingested when you use iodized salt. Since I use sea salt, I need to supplement my iodine. Hence..kelp.
I’m Loving…Skora Running Shoes
I was sent a pair of Skora Base running shoes to try out. I have only run in them twice, so I will have my full review later, after wearing them for a couple more weeks. In the meantime, I am enjoying the feeling of less. They are so light and they fit like a glove. And they are pretty too! I chose the Base to try because I was told that they had a little more support than some of the Skora running shoes and would be good for someone new to minimalist running. I’m not a convert yet, but we’ll see.
I know, I know, I’ve rambled on about jackfruit for a while. But, what can I say? I love it. Jackfruit is not a fake meat, it is the unripened (or green) fruit of the Jackfruit. It comes in water or in brine (don’t get the one in syrup or you will be in for a sweet, but not happy, surprise). It doesn’t have a lot of flavor of it’s own, so it takes on the flavors of the seasonings that you use. It’s texture is like pulled pork or shredded meat. I have made jackfruit carnitas, and now I have a recipe for jackfruit stuffed avocado that I will be sharing next week.
I’m Loving…Lunch from Trader Joes
This probably doesn’t come as a surprise to most of you, but you can get a great, quick lunch at Trader Joes for just a few bucks. In addition to salads, sandwiches, wraps and even sushi, they have a decent selection of vegetarian and vegan options. I stopped on the way in to work this morning and picked up something new! The Veggie Wrap with Hummus joins the Falafel Wrap and Lentil Wrap as my favorite vegan really fast food. Unlike the Lentil Wrap, it did not come with any sauce on the side, so I picked up a container of tahini sauce. Yum!
I Wanted to Love…Zola Coconut Water with Espresso
I love Zola Coconut Water. It really is the only canned or bottled brand that I really like. If I can’t have it straight out of the coconut, I want it to be Zola. So I really wanted to love this Zola Coconut Water with Espresso that I was sent to try out. I even poured myself a glass and tasted it (yum!). Then I thought that I’d better read the ingredients. Then I saw it contained milk, so sadly, no more for this girl. It also contains carrageenan, a food additive that causes concern among some researchers. So, for now I will stick with my Zola Coconut Water, which only contains, you guessed it, coconut water.
What have you been loving lately? Share in the comments!
So in the interest of full disclosure, I was sent the Balaga socks, Skora Base Running shoes, and the Zola Coconut Water with Espresso at no cost in exchange for my honest review. I will have a full review of the Skora shoes after I have had a chance to try them out thoroughly. All opinions are my own.
