Weekly Reader: Checking in for Inspiration

Have you ever read a great book, seen an inspiring movie, or heard a great joke, and thought, “I’ve got to share that!” Of course you have! Here are a few things from my Reader in the last week that inspired and motivated me, made me happy, sad, and angry, made my stomach growl, and made me laugh.

Fit Knit Chick, 10 Reasons Why You’re Not Getting Results in the Gym. Almost a month into the new year and not seeing the results of your hard work? Check out Tamara’s post and you might find the reason why.

Marcia’s Healthy Slice, How Much is Too Much?  This post triggered a rant from me because I have long been complaining about the price of races. Check out the comments because there are a lot of different points of view.

Marathon Mom, 13 in 2013 Virtual Race Series. If you are participating in a 13 in 2013 Race challenge, be sure to join Marathon Mom’s virtual race series. She’s co-hosting six virtual races this year (a lot easier on the pocketbook that any run-of-the-mill race!).

Runladylike, Divas Half Marathon and Training Plan. I’m excited to follow Jesica as she trains for this half marathon because it is on the same date as my half marathon. She’s a youngster a little younger than me, so we have different expectations: I pretty much just want to survive and just maybe run two hours, and my race won’t be handing out pink boas (so I may just have to bring my own!).

Vegan Inspiration

Fragrant Vanilla Cake, Tropical Fruit Spring Rolls with Raw Lime Avocado Banana Ice Cream. I don’t know if these tropical fruit rolls will actually transport you to the islands, but as Amy says, it will taste like it for a lot less money. Not only does this recipes sound delicious, the photos are so beautiful they make my mouth water.

The Sweetest Vegan, Vegan Lasagna Recipe. Tasha always takes on the challenge of veganizing a variety of restaurant dishes. Here she takes on Olive Garden’s lasagna with results that look delicious.

Run to the Finish, Recreating Restaurant Dishes at Home. I knew I had to read this post because, like Amanda, I love to re-create restaurant dishes. The best part is that they usually taste better than the original. She includes a recipe for a Spicy Black Bean Quinoa Salad. Yum!

JL Goes Vegan, Vegan “Essentials,” Wearing Vegan While Eating Vegan and Growing as a Joyful Vegan. I think I loved this post in the first place because one of JL’s essentials is vegan marshmallows. She also discusses “walking the walk,” wearing vegan clothing in addition to eating vegan. Plus, her mission to be a Joyful Vegan, setting an example of what a vegan lifestyle should exemplify.

Vegansaurus, Buzzfeed Kills It With “The 19 Most Annoying Things About Being Vegan.”  So funny and so true, click Vegansaurus’ link to the Buzzfeed article. It will crack you up, vegan or not.
