Getting Psyched for 2013 (and a Giveaway to Get You Psyched Too!)

Getting Psyched

The contest is over, but I hope you’ll enjoy the post anyway!

It has been a while since I’ve said this, but I am really excited about my training plans for the upcoming new year. I’ve never been one to make resolutions, preferring to call them “goals,” but I’m thinking that just maybe this year will be an exception.

You may ask what has me so ecstatic about exercise? Well, I’ll tell you (that is the purpose of this post, after all). There are actually three things that I think will be both useful and motivational. Number one is the Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor that I received from h.h. gregg.

Polar HRM Psyched

I strapped on the pretty pink Polar and not only did I want to go for a run, I wanted to run fast. I was so excited to see what I would learn about my body, my training, and my fitness level that I wanted to zip right out the door.

Back to Reality

Well, I was a long way from zippy when I took my run. My regular route starts out slightly uphill, then the incline increases about a half mile into the run. My heart rate climbed quickly, much higher than my slow effort seemed to warrant. Just using a basic heart rate formula (220-age=100% maximal heart rate, ie the kind of calculation that I can do in my head when I’m jogging along at, well, wait…90%?!).

psyched polar heart rate monitorWell, I have my starting point. I may run several days a week, but I’m not in great shape. So, my first goal for 2013 is to change that. And I am psyched that my new Polar heart rate monitor is going to help me get there.

New Year’s Solution! Get Healthy & Win Big!
