Sweaty Saturday: Cross Country Girls Finish 4th!

Obviously, in spite of a promise I made several weeks ago, Sweaty Saturday has become all about cross country. I guess I shouldn’t expect it to be any other way. I am spending all of my Saturdays at cross country meets throughout Southern California. I’m afraid this will continue for a few more weeks. But at least I’ll make this brief.

My varsity girls took fourth place at the Yucaipa Invitational today!

Running

It was yet another hot day (btw, they’re predicting a heat wave, with temps up to 115 on Monday. That would be October 1!). Yucaipa has a tough course where times are usually quite a bit slower that they were at last week’s meet in Hemet. There are some hills, including one pretty steep one that is about 1/4 mile long.

My ladies nailed it. They ran strong, they looked good, and what can I say? They took home some bling!

How is your weekend? Are you getting sweaty?

  1. Congrats on the strong finish, especially in this heat! I’m going to be getting up early tomorrow to get a quick run in before the sun actually lands on Earth (I’m in L.A., so we’re sharing the same heat wave), and I will hate every single step of it (blog forthcoming). But I’m doing the 10k Gladiator Rock ‘n Run at the Rose Bowl next Saturday so I want to make sure my legs are good to go.

Sounds like you and the ladies are crushing it! Good job, you should be very proud!

    • Thank you, I am very proud of them. We are pretty used to running in the heat, but it still makes a difference. I also will be rising early tomorrow to get in a run before the sun comes up and to give me time to make yoga at 9 (ah, the joy of being committed :-) ). The difference between us is that I will love every moment (and so will my dog Penny).

Hopefully by next Saturday’s race the weather will have normal-ed out a bit. I haven’t ever done a gladiator race, but I did do a great trail race at the Rose Bowl a few years ago. Great venue. Good luck!

  7. the best and most daunting thing I can say about this post is…my first cross country race did have a big hill, but it was grassy…and not hot. this looks difficult!! You gals look great, and what an amazing feeling that has to be to have worked so hard and got a title!! You always amaze me!!
