Weekend Reader

Have you ever read a great book, seen an inspiring movie, or heard a great joke, and thought, “I’ve got to share that!” Of course you have! Here are a few things from my Reader in the last week that inspired and motivated me, made me happy, sad, and angry, made my stomach growl, and made me laugh.

View from the Palm Desert Cross

Speaking of inspiration, this was my view this morning when I ran to the cross with my cross country team.

Recipe of the week: Better with Veggies, How to Press Tofu and Create a Tofu Scramble. I love a good tofu scramble, and Heather’s recipe looks amazing.

Best looking vegan food: What the Hell Does a Vegan Eat, Anyway? The vegan blog with the best name ever, they have the most beautiful looking food, too.

Workout of the Week: Fit Knit Chick, Short and Sweet Lower Body Workout: 6 Moves for Great Glutes and Lovely Legs. I love Tamara’s workouts, both for myself and (modified slightly for my 60+ years old students) for the fitness classes I teach.

Blogging Tip of the Week: Pushing Social, Blog Mastery: Weekend Assignment #1. In this post, Stanford teaches you how to write for your readers. Imagine that!

Vegan News:

Good news: Vegansaurus, Paul Shapiro’s Animal News You Can Use. In one of my favorite series, on one of my favorite vegan sites, Paul Shapiro delivers a couple “good news for animals” tidbits.

Bad news, Vegansaurus, USDA Retracts Support of Meatless Mondays. Unfortunately, sometimes it feel like one step forward two steps back. If you think we should trust our government for nutrition advice, think again.

Inspiration:

Most Inspirational: It’s All About Me, Deal with It, Team Leader, Means Business. From another great-titled blog, inspiration comes from someone who has dealt with her devils, changed her life, boosted her self-esteem, all while losing over 100 pounds. Now she’s the team leader for a marathon relay team.

Get Rid of Your Guilt: Cranky Fitness, Let’s Make a Deal! Cranky’s heading off for vacation, but before she goes, she’s giving you permission to unload your guilt. What a deal!

On Making New Habits: No Meat Athlete, The Simplest Things to Do (are Also the Simplest Things Not to Do). I love Matt. Seriously, I do. Absolutely one of the best resources for vegan athletes, this week he has some thoughts on how easy (and how hard) it is to make new habits.

Humor: Weighty Matters, MUST WATCH! “One Grain More” – Funniest Nutrition Video Ever Made! Yoni offers much more than humor on his blog. He is my go-to reference for nutrition vs. marketing and governmental bullshit. After watching this hilarious video, be sure to stick around his site for much useful information.

A New Addition: Finally, just added to my reader today, The Naked Kitchen (because everything tastes better naked). Sarah and Kristy, who write this blog and create these organic, whole food recipes, live close to me, which is cool, are runners, even cooler, and have created the perfect, no-meat meatball, coolest (plus a lot of other delicious food that I can’t wait to try).
