A big thanks to everyone who participated in the inaugural Gem of the Desert 5k Trail Run/Walk! We couldn’t have done it without you. We’ll be back next year even bigger and better (and hopefully no one will burn down our porta potties!).
Congratulations to Alonzo Santiago, our overall winner, who completed the course in 19:40, a full 2:29 ahead of his next competitor.
Congratulations also to Karla Jacome, our women’s winner. She finished the race in 27:47.
Actually, congratulations to everyone who participated. It was a tough, yet beautiful course, slightly over 5k (we ran the course this morning to make sure we’d picked everything up and measured it at 3.4 miles). The complete results are below:
Both files will open up in Excel. If you are having problems, I am also uploading to Active.com, but right now the server is busy and I can’t get through. I will update this as soon as I am able to upload the results.
Thanks again for a great race. We were so happy to meet so many new people!

YĆ©ah, it was a tough course. When my husband and I ran it the next day, our times were more than double the winners. Of course, we weren’t racing and we made some stops to pick up trash along the way. Oh, and we’re a lot older too.
